FAQ 268
Was the Apostles' Creed Written by the Apostles?
NCW 61, April-May 1999
Q. NCAY adheres to the “Apostles’ Creed”. But isn’t it true that this creed was not created by the apostles at all? So what authority does it have?
The spiritual authority of a writing lies not so much in its authorship but in its content. True, the term 'Apostles’ Creed' is something of a misnomer and may therefore be said to be a pseudepigraph; however, its teaching is most certainly apostolic and biblical. Perhaps a better designation would have been the 'Apostolic Creed'. In spite of its origin, though, its truthfulness remains.
See The New Covenant Messianic Evangelical Creed.
