The Pearl of Great Price
A Parable
"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, 46 who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it" (Matthew 13:45-46, NKJV)
This parable can be applied on so many different levels beginning, of course, with its primary one, the relationship between the talmid (disciple) and the Kingdom of Heaven (and its King, Yah'shua/Jesus). Since our relationship to Christ, as of Israel to Yahweh our Heavenly Father, is depicted as an allegorical marriage, then the same truth applies on a secondary level to the investment involved in a woman's search for the husband that Father has chosen or appointed for her. The right one is a pearl, all others counterfeit, the investment the heart-commitment.
This commitment is shown the most clearly in Isaiah 4:1 where aspirant wives declare: "We will eat our own food and provide our own clothes; only let us be called by your name. Take away our disgrace!" where the motivation is spiritual - it's the NAME (SHEM) or the CHARACTER of the sought-for husband that counts.
We seek echad union with Elohim (God) and His Christ not because of the material benefits (the provision of physical things) but because singleness (i.e. salvation, covering, safety, etc.) is the main thing we seek, and the freedom, wholeness and cleanness that salvation brings, the very opposite of the priorities of the false 'prosperity gospel'. Yahweh provides everything the allegorical bride (us) needs but what we are most after is all that the NAME itself signifies - safety, love, the companionship of the Ruach/Spirit, so much so that we are willing to labour in the world for our material things ('clothes') by the 'sweat of our brow' which don't magically fall out of heaven (i.e. He provides opportunity for jobs, home industries, etc.).
What is the pearl YOU are seeking? And are you willing for forfeit everything to have to get it?
