Section 148
On Salaried Ministry
A salaried ministry is not permitted by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The ministry is not a career either. Where ministers cannot support themselves they may receive support from local Congregations or the General Church but they are never to expect such support. Only the apostles and evangelists are in full-time ministry and they must depend on the good-will of the people. However, they are not excused from work if their needs are not met, as Paul had to occasionally work as a tentmaker to support his ministry. There are to be no kings in Zion; only Jesus is King. Zion is to be ruled by Judges, the Patriarch-Apostles [Oppsal, Oslo, Norway].
1. The Word of the Lord to the New Covenant Christians on the subject of paid ministry:
2. Thus saith the Lord: thou shalt not salary the ministry at any time but the ministry shall labour for its own support.
3. The Word of God is beyond the price of rubies yet thou shalt not charge even one senine {penny} for it1.
The Word of God is Free
4. Did the Son of Man charge the children of men even one senine {penny} for it? Did the Son of Man charge the children of men for His words? What father would charge his son for his counsel?
5. The Word of the Lord is free and thou shalt demand no price for it, but thou shalt follow the good examples of the apostles who laboured with their own hands for their support notwithstanding their many travels abroad to declare My Gospel.
6. That which is spiritual is spiritual and shall hold no fellowship with mamm- on; all else is usury and priestcraft, saith the Lord.
Dismiss the Minister who Demands Money
7. Thou shalt put out of office the minister who demandeth recompense in gold and silver, for upon such shall be heaped hot coals and a seared conscience.
Free-Will Support is Encouraged
8. But thou shalt not forbid the saints giving support to their ministers, nor those gentiles who offer hospitality.
9. And behold, the apostles should go forth as in days of old relying upon My grace and providence.
No Kings in Zion
10. Ye shall have no kings but Zion shall be governed by judges, saith the Lord of Hosts, for kingcraft is nigh unto priestcraft in its evil.
11. And the judges in Zion shall labour for their own support, even as it is written2. Amen.
