Fewer People in Norway want to be a part of the EU
Posted by Lev/Christopher on November 20, 2008 at 2:02am in Scandinavian Group

Two new surveys reveal that EU-supporters are fewer and fewer, and
that the interest in Norwegian EU-membership is now lower than every
before.
Only 32.8 per cent of those asked in an opinion poll conducted by
Sentio for Nationen and Klassekampen, want to have EU-membership. This
is a decrease of 4 per cent for the yes-side since October, and
EU-supporters are now fewer than ever before.
55.6 per cent of those asked say no to EU-membership, and this is an
increase of 3.8 per cent since last month. 11.6 per cent answer that
they don’t know to the question about EU-membership.
The no-side has had over 50 per cent adherence over the last 13 months, and No to EU-leader, Heming Olaussen rejoices.
Bolkestein Directive
”It is difficult to point to any other factor that could influence the
figures as strongly as the directive on services in the internal
market, (Bolkestein Directive) “ he says to Klassekampen.
“The Bolkestein Directive touches on that which people feel to be the
nucleus of the EU-matter, which is the extreme EU-adaption represented
by Jens Stoltenberg. People don’t want it. The people’s ”no” in 1994
was adamant, and Stoltenberg ought to take that seriously,” says
Olaussen.
Voters under the age of 30 are especially critical to EU-membership. As
many as 65 per cent say no, while only 18 per cent want to join the
union.
Would have voted against
An opinion poll conducted by Respons for Aftenposten reveals an even clearer no-majority.
As many as 62 per cent of those asked say that they would have voted
against, if there were another referendum on Norwegian-membership in EU
tomorrow, while 38 per cent say they would vote for.
In November 2007, 58 per cent said that they would vote against, while 42 per cent would vote for.
The no-supporters have now been in the lead over the yes-side for 43 months on the run, affirms Aftenposten.
