    Generational Curses

    Generational Curses

Suppose two relatively new Christians, coming out of very worldly backgrounds, are attracted to one another and begin to experience strong feelings of lust for each other. Since they love the Lord and do not want to break God’s commandments with premarital sex, they pray for strength to overcome. Using sheer will power, they try to overcome their lustful feelings. They never permit the Savior into the depths of their souls to heal the unmet needs that made them sexually vulnerable in the first place. In lust they eventually conceive a child out of wedlock.

Like many in this situation, they marry, relieved to have “legitimized” their lustful feelings for each other. No one told them that a wedding in a big church does not automatically close the doors to prior spirits that have access to their souls. They deceived themselves into thinking that a marriage ceremony would correct their lustful thoughts and actions, turning them into godly sexual desires for one’s mate.

This, unfortunately, did not occur in our couple’s lives, and a child is born. Since the parents married, the circumstances of the child’s conception no longer seem important.

At a very young age, however, the child begins to show an abnormal interest in sexual things beyond his or her years. Family members are confused and embarrassed. Did someone molest the child? Was it the fault of today’s ungodly media or exposure to unsaved children? What could cause a child from a Christian home to be drawn to vulgar activities?

The parents and their counselors seek the cause of the aberrant behavior outside of the home. Neither psychology nor medication can change the child’s seemingly in-born tendency. The child bears the iniquities of the parents because they did not know that God had made provision for their release through the Lord Jesus Christ.

    The Only Answer

What does God’s Word have to say about a child conceived out of wedlock? It may shock you to know that the Bible says such a child is “cursed” and separated from the congregation for ten generations, which is 400 years. Further, this curse will pass through the couple’s bloodline with unusual sexual promiscuity.

“A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD, even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD” (Deuteronomy 23:2).

The only answer is the Lord Jesus Christ, our deliverer, who gave us all authority over the power of the enemy and nothing shall by any means hurt us or our children. If any of us believe wrong, then we cannot possibly do right. Such deception affects not only our own lives but results in generational curses being passed on to our children through no fault of their own.

Sexual sin of any kind can carry over to your own children, but no one needs to stay in bondage. God has made a provision, through the Lord Jesus Christ, for you to receive release and deliverance.

The doors of spiritual access opened by ungodly sexual behaviors can only be closed through:

    Spiritual understanding

    Godly repentance

Renouncing the cause that made the person vulnerable in the first place

Casting out of the evil spirits that came as a result of their iniquities and their ancestors.

What makes this possible? Jesus was made a curse that we may receive the blessing.

Are You the Victim of a Generational Curse?

Curses are real whether you believe in them or not. The Word of God has clearly revealed to us the out-working of curses and blessings in our lives.

In the book of Deuteronomy, the Lord God reveals the meaning of blessing and cursing and shows us the cause and the reason for them: “This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now, choose life that you and your children may live” (Deut. 30:19).

The Lord God promises blessing when we hear and obey His voice; and He promises cursing for not hearing, but instead, doing iniquity. Further, He promised that the consequences would fall either on us or “our seed,” which means our children.

This revelation is in total disagreement with the teaching from most pulpits because of ignorance or outright rebellion on the part of those who will not accept the truth and be delivered.

Hosea 4:6 clearly states the reason for such refusal and the consequences: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.”

If you reject knowledge, God will reject you from being a priest and will forget your children. God has pronounced a curse on us for rejecting knowledge of His Word. We are responsible and will give account to God for not laying to heart the revealed will of God through the Scriptures.

    A Kingdom of Priests

Malachi 2:1-2 declares that God will “curse your blessings,” and that this message is for the priests. According to Revelation 1:6, Jesus has made all believers Kings and Priests unto God and His Father.

God the Father paid a precious price for each and every one of us, and we are His “inheritance” (Eph. 1:18.) From the first deliverance of Israel, God brought them back to Himself and promised that they would be a “Kingdom of Priests” and an “Holy Nation” (Ex. 19:6). This promise, however, comes with a condition mentioned in verse five: If we would “obey His voice.”

Are you taking this command to heart? If not, you are cursed — not only you but also your children. Most Christians will say, “Jesus became a curse for me, and I am free,” referring to Galatians 3:13. This is where we need clarification not confusion. Verse 14 provides the conditions needed for freedom from the curse.

Jesus was made a curse for us that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Holy Spirit through faith. Jesus was made a curse that we might receive the blessing. In other words, we might not receive the blessing if we do not do something to receive the promise of God. The same distinction is spoken by the Holy Spirit in 2 Cor. 5:21: How that “Jesus was made to be sin for us that we might be made the righteousness of God in him..”

    Are You Blessed or Cursed?

At some point in your life and mine, we confessed our sin and acknowledged Jesus Christ as Lord of our souls. At that point we received the promise of God, the gift of eternal life, and we repented of all our sin. Now we have chosen life not death, which is provided in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Now what about your iniquities, and the iniquity of your ancestors, that brought a curse into your bloodline? Your iniquities and the iniquities of your ancestors must be confessed and renounced, so they can be replaced with blessings — in your life, and in your children’s lives. The alternatives are clear: life and blessings, on the one hand; death and curses, on the other. God required the Israelites to make their choice. He urged them to make the right choice: life and blessings. But He would not make the choice for them. He further reminded them that the choice would not only affect their own lives but also the lives of their descendants.

This fact emerges once again as a characteristic of both blessings and curses: They continue from generation to generation. You cannot evade the issue; YOU must make a choice. If you evade the issue, you made the wrong choice. For not to choose is to make the wrong choice.

Once we make the choice, we can go on to claim release from any curses over our lives. There must be a simple, positive response:

Lord, on the basis of Your Word, I make my response. I refuse death and curses, and I choose life and blessings.

    Breaking Curses Off Your Life

Now that you have made the choice, you can go on to claim release from any curses over your life. There is no set pattern by which to do this, but the following steps are helpful in getting release:

    1. Confess your faith in Christ and His sacrifice on the Cross for you. Make your confession personal and specific:

Lord Jesus Christ, I believe that you are the Son of God and the only way to God the Father. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and rose again from the dead.

    2. Repent of all your rebellion and your sins. Jesus said “Repent and believe in the gospel” (Mark 1:15). Without repentance, no effective faith is possible.

Some professing Christians are continually struggling for faith because they have never fulfilled the prior condition of repentance. Consequently, they never receive the full benefits of Christ’s sacrifice.

This suggested confession expresses the repentance that God demands:

I give up all my rebellion and all my sin, and I submit myself to You as my Lord. I will obey You and no other.

    3. Claim forgiveness of all sins: Herein lies the confusion in most of our lives. It’s not only the confession of my sins and iniquities, but also confessing and repenting of the iniquities of my ancestors, (especially idolatry, occult involvement or sexual sins — such as a child conceived out of wedlock). We also have found that an abortion must be confessed as murder and the curse of murder broken, in the name of Jesus. Here is a suitable prayer:

I confess all my sins before You, Lord Jesus, and ask for Your forgiveness, especially for any sins that exposed me to a curse. Release me also from the consequences of the sins of my ancestors, including incest, child conceived out of wedlock, idolatry, occult involvement, and every iniquity of my forefathers as far back as it goes, through all generations even back to Adam and Eve.

    4. Forgive all other people who have ever harmed you or wronged you. Jesus put His finger on this issue as something we must deal with if we expect God to answer our prayers. And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses (Mark 11:25).

When you pray the following prayer, ask the Holy Spirit to bring to your mind anyone He wants you to forgive, saying their name in particular as you forgive them:

By a decision of my will, I forgive all who have harmed me or wronged me, just as I want God the Father to forgive me. In particular, I forgive (name the person or persons). I also forgive my ancestors, whose sins have caused me and my family to suffer. Because of your forgiveness, Father, I also forgive myself. If I have ever falsely charged You for my circumstances, I ask you to forgive me, in Jesus’ Name.

    5. Renounce any and all contact with anything occult or satanic. If you or your ancestors have been involved at any time in any satanic activities whatsoever, you have crossed an invisible border into the kingdom of Satan.

Since that time, whether you know it or not, Satan has regarded you as one of his subjects. He considers that he has legal claim to you. Since the Kingdom of God and kingdom of Satan are in total opposition to one another, you cannot enjoy the full rights and benefits of a citizen in God’s Kingdom until you have finally and forever severed all connection with Satan and totally canceled any claim he may have against you and your family.

The Bible stresses, in 2 Corinthians 6:14, 15, the necessity of a complete break with Satan’s kingdom: “What fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial (Satan)?” Verse 17 concludes with a direct charge from the Lord Himself: Therefore, “Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord, Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.”

You also must deal with any objects that would still link you with Satan. Any and all “contact objects” in your home or possession. Anything that the Holy Spirit identifies as offensive to Him, get rid of them in the most effective way: burn, smash, or throw it into deep water or destroy them!

If you are ready to make this total break with Satan and his kingdom, here is an appropriate way to affirm it:

I renounce all contact with anything occult or satanic. If I have any contact objects, I commit myself to destroy them. I cancel all Satan’s claims against me.

    6. You are now ready to pray the prayer for release from any curse. If you have been willing to commit yourself to each of the preceding five steps, you are now at the place where you can pray the actual prayer for release from any curse over your life. This is a prayer that would be appropriate:

“Lord Jesus, I believe that on the cross You took on Yourself every curse that could ever come upon me. So I ask You now to release me from every curse over my life, in Your Name, Lord Jesus Christ. By faith I now receive my release and I thank You for it.” And, Father, I ask you to bless me and my family in any way You choose to bless us, in Jesus Name.

Derek Prince’s book, Blessings and Curses, has a lot of sound information on this subject. I suggest you get the book for your library.
