The Davar Elohim (Word of God), or Bible, has been under attack since the very beginning. Where tyrants have more obviously failed to burn or ban it, others have sought to undermine it in multitudinous but less obvious or visible ways. From the Jewish Masoretes who subtly changed a word or a spelling here or there in the Tanakh (Old Testament) to keep Judahite seekers off the messianic trail - this dastardly attack on the integrity of the Davar (Word) would have remained concealed but for the 20th century discovery of older manuscripts at the late Qumran Community (the Dead Sea Scrolls - DSS) - to the ever so subtle changes in the meaning of common language, some of it deliberately engineered by small mutations into a kind of Orwellian 'Newspeak', some the result of the natural evolution of language over time, we face huge challenges in rendering Scripture into accurate English. Many of the contemporary English versions of the Bible, with obvious political and denominational biases and undertones, leave important sections of divine emet (truth) buried in the sediment of obscurity.

Our problem is made harder by the fact that the English language is devolving - becoming more and more dilute and less precise because of the deliberate and systematic dumbing down of the masses by government-controlled education and low quality media wordery. Your average working class Englishman from the Victorian and Edwardian eras was more literate and sophisticated in his speech, and far better able to communicate subtle and deep thoughts, than today's moderns of all classes. Dickensonian English is beyond the ken of most 21st century English-speakers, almost like a foreign language to them, as remote to moderns as Chaucer's mediaeval English was to me when I was receiving my classical education at a British public school. And even those who have been well-educated tend to be inculcated with Hellenic (Greek) cultural thought-forms that are remote from the thinking of the Bible world.

Worse, perhaps, than the loss of language and the inability of people to articulate thoughts properly, the modern sub-standard educational system - aided and abetted by a degenerate media - has also resulted in the ineptitude of the average man to think logically. You cannot reason with most people any longer, tempers easily flare, everything has become subjective and group-think oriented. People no longer have their own original thoughts but submit themselves to agenda-directed 'consensus'. We live in an existential world where every man and woman has his or her own 'truth' [1] based on 'gut feelings' rather than on any kind of systematic approach to knowledge. Modern Western society in particular, since cutting its anchor loose from the bedrock of biblical emet (truth), now drifts in a sea of intellectual relativism, where truth is subject to continuous revision and 'updating'. To cap it all, the mind is being destroyed by psychotropic drugs [2] and other poisonous chemicals that saturate and pollute our food and environment.

This is also true, unfortunately, of believers - Christians and Messianics - who have been intellectually and emotionally processed by what is essentially atheistic and communistic state education [3]. To be well educated is not enough when you consider how the secular universities in particular have all been bent to think in a particular way, no less, of course, the theological seminaries (conservative and liberal) steeped in inflexible tradition. The good news is that a renaissance of sorts is occurring amongst those willing to be retrained to think the biblical way, not by denominational theology (which is heavily influenced by numerous streams of philosophical and political thought), and not, I might add, by Judaism either, whose modern Hebrew is remote from its classical biblical progenitor, its traditions every bit as corrupt as those of Western Christianity.

The subject matter of this book is 'Covenants of Yahweh' and in particular how they relate to what we, unfortunately, translate as 'Law'. A mistake often made by messianics when broaching the subject of 'Law' is that they underestimate the depth of hostility towards it in the Protestant community mindset thanks to half a millennium of indoctrination. You only have to read the works of Martin Luther to quickly glean the hatred he had for the Torah. This was, I believe, the seed that has led to the rampant lawlessness in Western society today, for once the Protestant institutions that built their own artificial human tradition-based law-dyke to contain immorality was swept away after two very destructive world wars in Europe, anarchy was the inevitable result.

I am not, I should add, in decrying Protestantism's anitomianism (lawlessness), upholding the Catholicism it sought to reform. The creature in the Vatican was, and is, even more steeped in tradition than the Protestantism that sought to reform and supplant it, and is not, moreover, adverse to playing political games and exploiting lawlessness to achieve its own warped theocratic ends. The problem with the Reformation is that it not only didn't go far enough but was so concerned about knocking down the edifice of Catholic rules and regulations that it erred on the side of lawlessness so as to prevent a return by the masses to its former state of enslavement. Nothing abhors a vacuum more than human nature, forcing Protestism to crystalise out its own creeds and laws that in turn fossilised into tradition. Embedded deeply in this wall of tradition is a hatred of 'The Law', and specifically the 'Law of Moses', so-called, though he was not, of course, its author but the transmitter of the Divine Revelation.

We do a great disservice to the cause of Emet (Truth) when we translate the word Torah with the English word 'Law'. This is an immensely complex and deep word that is variously translatable as 'Teaching', 'Instruction', 'Covenant Terms', 'Light' and even 'Journey'. We have been brainwashed by Protestant divines into viewing it as something cold and hostile to our well-being, aided and abbetted by the stoney material onto which the 'Ten Words' or 'Commandments' were embedded by the Divine Hand at Sinai. This rocky pair of tablets is contrasted with the illusion of a picture of infinitely softer, warmer and more attractive human 'heart' substance, as we tend to view that organ, forgetting that the heart is as itself more than able to turn to 'stone' because of rebellion and sin as it is of being an instrument of satanic deception - "the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?" (Jer.17:9, NKJV). Besides, does not the Besorah (Gospel) speak highly, if not imperitively, of the believer building his spiritual foundation on the "Rock" that is the Messiah whose Heart, we all surely agree, is the kind of heart we all want to have too?

It is essential that we divorce our thinking from Protestant propaganda about the Torah if we are to properly understand the true place of the Law, and in the context of Covenants, not allowing the Reformers to bend or twist Paul into saying things he never did [4]. We also have to understand from the outset that the Torah revealed to Moses was not intended solely for one small group of human beings, the children of Israel, but for all humanity. That said, we should not be surprised to find the Adversary bending and twisting every emet (truth) of Yahweh out of shape in order to mislead mankind. Rather, we should expect it, and in every quarter and on every level. That is why Yahweh raises teachers whose goal is to make their pupils teachers too, not in man-made dogma, but in the true principles of Scripture, equipping them with sound exegetical tools.

The last generation, if it is to thrive and triumph in an end-time world of mass deception even more potent than that of the current one, badly deceived through that is in its own right, has a lot to prepare for. Conditions can only, and will only, get worse, which means the urgent need for ever greater vigilance on the part of today's teachers who must not only teach the emet (truth) but also expose all the major lies too. We have to know how the enemy thinks and works without being tempted ourselves [5]. This will require a breadth of knowledge and of experience on that last generation's part that has never been expected of any believer before. We are commanded to be wise as serpents (Mt.10:15), not allowing the Enemy to outsmart us. We have to be like Yah'shua (Jesus) whose brilliant yet simple answers dumbfounded the élites of His day, both religious and secular, not for cleverness' sake but so that the emet (truth) might advance unimpeded by ignorance and deception.
