Direct and Clear
The Hallmarks of Godliness
"I am Yahweh, Creator of the heavens, who is Elohim (God), who formed the earth and made it, who set it firm, created it no chaos, but a place to be lived in: 'I am Yahweh, unrivalled, I have not spoken in secret in some corner of a darkened land. I have not said to Jacob's descendants, 'Seek Him in the chaos.' I, Yahweh, speak with directness, I express Myself with clarity'" (Is.45:18-19, JB).
Behavioural Liberalism
I was listening today to a university lecture being given by the controversial, gifted, knowledgeable and charismatic nonogenarian, Lyndon LaRouche [1], a distinguished American writer and speaker on economic, scientific, and political topics, as well as on history, philosophy, and psychoanalysis, and more than one-time US presidential candidate. Though I don't obviously agree with the Marxist underpinnings of his belief system, he has some profound scientific insights into the way the world is, and has been, run over the centuries that accord well with my own. He exposes the behavioural liberalism of today's politicians and academics that is causing so much grief to families and to nations. He is without a doubt an expert in political and economic dynamics.
Yahweh's Direct and Clear Speech
Listening to him brought to mind today's passage of Scripture in which Yahweh states emphatically that He speaks directly and with clarity, and in an unrivalled way. We are reminded that in the world He originally created there was no chaos or disorder, the kind of place that all decent people would wish to live in. The chaos that is to be found in the world, so quickly blamed on Him by atheists, was not of His making by the devil's once man started turning to false religion and atheism.
The Compatibility of Science and Religion
I have long maintained that true science, as opposed to the highly politicised version we are force-fed in the media and educational system, is completely compatible with the true Besorah (Gospel) of Yah'shua the Messiah (Jesus Christ) as opposed to all the counterfeit (and, arguably, politicised) forms of religion. There is an incisive clarity in the reality and emet (truth) of both the visible and invisible worlds of law and process, chaos being the negative element injected by the Fall into both.
Hungry for Understanding
I began adult life as a scientist, became a believer, and have enthusiastically remained both ever since. I love science, I love orderliness, I love systems, I love art, music, and literature, I love spiritual emet (truth), and I love the 'big picture', Elohim (God) Himself. One of the reasons I have sometimes wished I could live as long as the early patriarchs is because I would love to become conversant in all scientific and artistic disciplines. Equally, one of my greatest frustrations is my ongoing illness which does not afford me the energy or time to pursue further the many subjects that interest me. The older I become, the more hungry for understanding I seem to get.
Emotional Intelligence
The good news is that we have eternity in which to pursue all thee many things that interest us, and more, which means we must prioritise our searching for the things that matter the most down here in mortality. Given the chaos deliberately sown by the Enemy into every discipline of knowledge, including religion, it's important that we prioretise certain skills. These must surely include an ability to communicate accurately which means mastering at least one language (preferably two for contrast), understanding the basics of mathematics, and learning to think logically. Additionally, we must develop what Daniel Goleman calls 'emotional intelligence' that includes self-awareness, impulse control, persistence, zeal and motivation, empathy and social deftness. Emotion and intellectual rationality have to be paired and married. This 'emotional intelligence', Goleman insists, matters twice as much as cognitive abilities such as IQ and technical expertise.
Spirituality and the Dysfunctionality of the State
Equally as important, and last but not least, human beings cannot develop properly without spirituality. These three aspects - intellectual, emotional and spiritual - complete a man's or woman's identity. They are only adequatelty and integratively learned in properly functioning homes because human beings have to be raised in these things, not allowing the lessons of this essential life process to be pawned off to schools and other institutions where one or more of these three elements is partially lacking or totally absent. In a word, a happy, productive human being with a sense of eternal purpose cannot be raised by the state, for that impersonal institution, rendered dysfunctional by ascribing parenthood to it, can only produce dysfunctionality in society.
The Unity of Love
The heart and essence of true spirituality is ahavah (love) and its perfect personification is alone found in Yah'shua the Messiah (Jesus Christ), who alone lived, alone incarnates, and alone conveys that ahavah (love) to man. Ahavah (love) seeks a million-and-one avenues of manifestation and expression, desires to occupy every void in space and time, and relentlessly seeks out her own. She is spiritual, emotional and intellectual, without any sort of division or boundary between the three. She is an echad (unity) of spirit, heart and mind. And, most importantly, she is not an independent entity, you can't buy her or earn her - she comes in only one way, as a whole, from a Divine Person, Yah'shua the Messiah (Jesus Christ) who must be acknowledged as her source, and received through humility, repentance and self-surrender. These will produce in you, as you are transformed by the Master, the clarity and desire for directness that are the opposite of the obfuscation and chaos of the world.
The Delusions of Non-Spiritual Science
The French mathematician René Thom, a lecture of whose I attended in Oxford years ago, wrote that:
"Biology...labour[s] under the same delusion as physics: the belief that the interaction of a small number of elementary particles embraces and explains all macroscopic phenomena, when, in fact, the finer the investigation is, the more complicated the events are, leading eventually to a new world to be explained in which one cannot discern among the enormous set of new phenomena the relevant factors for macroscopic order." [2]
Ultimate Truth is Spiritually Discerned
And the reason for that that they must be "spiritually discerned" (1 Cor.2:14, NKJV). Indeed the natural man, who tries to separate emotional intelligence from mental intelligence, and both from spirituality, never will be able to understand.
"But the natural man does not receive the things of the Ruach Elohim (Spirit of God), for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned" (1 Cor.2:14, NKJV).
The Blindness of Dawkins and Hawking
Neither Oxford biologist Richard Dawkins nor Cambridge physicist Steven Hawking, for all their intellectual ability, can answer Thom's question, and will never be able to. For both the universe and the Elohim (God) who created it will forever be infinitely larger than the 3 pounds or 1400 grams of brain tissue, our human biocomputer, lodged in their very finite skulls. So long as they lack the humility, they will be deprived both of true knowledge in this life and salvation in the next.
Conclusion
The heart is bigger than the mind, and the spirit bigger than both of them. Reach beyond, follow the directness of the biblical manual of life, and meet the living Elohim (God). Then all will become crystal clear. Amen.
