Day #126, 5934 AM
Beyond Mediocrity
Becoming Who You Really Are

We have been trained over the last century to let someone else - either the church or the state - take responsibility for us and decide what we should do, how we should behave, how we should think and how we should live. The truth is we are each responsible before Yahweh to do what is right and pleasing to Him as well as to take responsibility for our communities, spiritual as well as secular. When we abrogate our responsibilities, what results is always mediocrity.

Mediocrity is the state or quality of being average or ordinary that results in everyone essentially being the same. When states attempt to make everyone alike it is always so they can control us. It is easier to manipulate and control mass behaviour than it is many different kinds of behaviour. So the state decides what is 'normal' and (on its own authority, implying it is superior to the rest of us) reclassifies everything else as dysfunctional, diseased, or pathological. You have heard it before - 'religion is the opium of the masses'. But in reality it seems to me that secularism and liberalism have earned for themselves that dubious distinction all on its own. After all, it's human beings who make religion and it's human beings who make secularism.

Mediocrity is not natural. It doesn't exist in nature even. Nature is constantly being driven by an invisible divine force to expand, conquer 'uninhabitable' areas, occupy niches, multiply and replenish the world. There is nothing admirable about mediocrity - it's just an excuse for stagnation. And nature scorns it.

The Gospel turns mediocre people into exceptional people - and not just a few here or there but everyone who adheres to Messiah and obeys His Torah! The true Gospel does not create élites of 'clergy and laity' but makes everyone part of an élite. Think of that! Instead of the best being reserved for a few, the best is earmarked for everyone. Moses never wanted to be a prophetic Führer - his desire was:

"Oh, that all Yahweh's people were prophets and that Yahweh would put His Ruach (Spirit) upon them!" (Num.11:29, NKJV).

All! Everyone! Paul said:

"For this is good and acceptable in the sight of Elohim (God) our Deliverer (Saviour), who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth" (1 Tim 2:3-4, NKJV).

It is not the business of churches or governments to restrict Tree of Life knowledge but to make it available as well as giving the people the freedom to search for it and use it themselves. In the schools we are given pre-packaged knowledge presented in a certain way so that everyone will think alike in the way the government or church wants. As I may have mentioned recently, I have been studying Catholicism in a part of Lithuania, a pre-packaged religion if ever there was one. It's a system of mind-control. Religious or atheistic, liberal or extremist, the control is basically the same. Moses wanted everyone to have the prophetic gift, Paul wanted everyone to find salvation. These things Yahweh wants.

We as a ministry tried the packaging business ourselves once. Actually, it is necessary for children (spiritual as well as biological). Children do need a carefully defined world for them. However, that is the parents' responsibility and not the state's or the church's, and children must grow up and explore for themselves, and see that Yahweh's Torah hedge of protection is good and reliable. If they have been brought up well, and been given freedom toe explore, and know the resurrected Christ, they will choose this hedge all for themselves.

All our problems begin when governments and churches start behaving like Yahweh and make themselves out to be God, or at least God's personal and exclusive representatives. It is easy for both to forget that they are only the stewards on behalf of a Higher Power to protect the right of His children to become who He wants them to be and not to mould them into their flawed image. Governments and churches cannot hide themselves from scrutiny as Yahweh does because Yahweh alone is perfect and just.

There is a saying by Ralph Waldo Emerson which paraphrasing goes like this: WHAT YOU ARE SPEAKS SO LOUD THAT NO ONE CAN HEAR WHAT YOU SAY. Governments and churches talk a lot but what we need to listen to is what they actually are. And what they are is discerned in what they do. The same author also said:

"To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment".

Of course, we take Emerson one stage further because the real 'you' is actually never realised until 'you' are IN Christ and that unhuman 'fleshy' nature is ripped away. That is the difference between a Christian/Messianic and a secularist because the latter erroneously believes that the demonic nature in the flesh is actually 'us' and must be embraced, tamed, or whatever. But it isn't us. It isn't even human. Indeed, it prevents us entering the realm of excellence and exceptionality which is absolutely a life in Christ. Thus Paul would express his goal in these terms:

"Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Messiah Yah'shua. To this end I also labour, striving according to His working which works in me mightily" (Col.1:28-29, NKJV).

Governments and churches may try to pre-package you like sardines in the restrictive tins of man's invention but Yahweh has His own packaging which is far superior because as long as you keep growing in Him you'll never touch the outer wrapping! Why? Because it keeps growing with you whilst retaining the original tavnith or pattern. This way you will become who you really are and were intended to be: LIKE CHRIST (1 Jn.3:2).
