Part 1
STEP 1 - Applying for/Renewing a Passport
If you live outside the European Union (EU) you will almost certainly require a LETTER OF INVITATION unless you are from a country (like the United States) whose citizens require no visa to enter Sweden. The first thing you will need to do, then, is check to see whether you need a letter of invitation in order to secure a visa.
If you do, then you need to first of all get a Passport. If you have never had a passport before, or have to renew one, check out your country's regulations for passport usage. In many countries like the USA, for example, your passport must be at least 6 months old before you can use it to leave your country. Since an application for a Swedish visa can take from 4-8 months these days, obtaining a valid passort is the first thing you must do.
STEP 2 - Letter of Invitation
Once you have obtained a passport and, where required, the wait of 6 months has passed, you should contact us, preferably by email (for speed), and supply the following information:
- 1. Your FULL NAME (as it appears in your passport);
- 2. Your GENDER;
- 3. Your PASSPORT NUMBER;
- 4. Your FULL CONTACT ADDRESS;
- 5. Your PHONE NUMBER; and
- 6. Your EMAIL ADDRESS.
MLT/NCAY has the right to refuse your application if we do not know you or are uncertain about your intentions for applying
Step 3 - Applying for a Swedish Visa
We will then write you a Letter of Invitation and post it to you, as well as scanning an original copy and attaching it in an email to you so that you can begin the process of applying for a visa at your nearest Swedish Embassy or Consulate in your home country. You may need to make at least two visits. You should be able to download a form from the website of your local Swedish Embassy. In some smaller countries Sweden may share an embassy with another country like Denmark or Norway - List of Swedish Embassies Around the World
THE SOONER YOU APPLY FOR A SWEDISH VISA THE BETTER ALLOW 4-8 MONTHS FOR PROCESSING
If you have visited us before and are known to Swedish Immigration, processing may be a little faster. If you plan to visit Sweden for additional reasons (like tourism or business) the processing time may be a little longer as they may decide to make a thorough check of your background. If you have had a visa issud by a Schengen country before (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, or Switzerland), and especially recently, this may speed up your application as the detailed background information search on you will already have been made.
If your Swedish Embassy requires us at MLT to file any special invitation directly to Swedish Immigration on your behalf it is your responsibility to alert us and send us, or direct us to, any forms we might need to complete and to ensure that we have all the required information about you in advance.
Step 4 - Registration
As of 2014 we now require that you complete a Registration Form which, together with fees, must reach us no later than four weeks before the start of Conference, irrespective of whether you plan to stay at our Guest House Dormitory or in a local hôtel or hostel. This is to enable us to plan out and purchase meals and organise space in the guest house. Minimum costs (in Swedish kronor) are as follows:
- 1. MEALS - Kr.500 per person (adults and children 3 years old and above) for 9 days for three very simple daily kosher meals during Pesach and Sukkot (with lunch and/or supper the day before conference, and lunch and/or breakfast the day after for arrivals and departures), or Kr.60 per day at Shavu'ot and at other times - 2014 rates. If you have special dietary needs (e.g. vegetarianism, allergies, etc.) you will need to assume responsibility for arranging and preparing your own food. Get in contact with us well in advance of arriving as the facilities are limited;
- 2. The MLT GUEST HOUSE DORMITORY - Kr.500 per person for 9 days during Pesach and Sukkot or Kr.60 per day at Shavu'ot to cover electricity, hot water, heating, bedding, etc. - 2014 rates. We can accommodate a maximum 8-10 people in two separate men's and women's areas. There are two bathrooms with showers but no cooking, laundry or other facilities. During Shavu'ot in the summer there is the option of camping outside too. Those of a more hardy disposition can, of course, camp outside at Pesach (-3 to 3°C/27 to 37°C - can be snow still) and Sukkot (5 to 8°C/41 to 46° - often very wet) but we do not recommend it if you are not a hardened outdoors person who is used to camping in cold and wet weather - nor do we particularly want germs spread amongst the delegates if you catch cold. You would be responsible for the erection of your own tents.
- 3. If you have MEDICAL PROBLEMS OR NEEDS, we need to know of these well in advance. You are also responsible for having adequate medical insurance before you come - we will need to see evidence of this upon your arrival. There is a hospital in Arvika which takes emergencies but you will need to show medical insurance papers before they will treat you, unless you are able to pay in cash. We cannot finance your medical bills in an emergency. The ambulance response time is anywhere between ½ and one hour. Out of consideration for others, please do not come if you have a contagious disease like AIDS, 'flu or Ebola!
These are the very minimum costs that we must ask of you so if you would like in addition to make a freewill love offering from your Festival Tithes as the Ruach (Spirit) moves you, this will be gratefully appreciated so that we can keep the Guest House running. Obviously prices will change in pace with inflation. If we have to rent or sell the Guest House then visitor costs using hôtels and transport will be ten or more times as expensive. Your generosity is what will keep this minimally costed service going and and will enable more people to come for ministry.
Step 5 - Air Ticket & Medical Insurance
Both Swedish Immigration and MLT/NCAY will require evidence that you have a valid return air ticket if you are coming from outside an EU Schengen nation. If you have failed to purchase a return ticket, that will become your sole responsibility and we cannot help you - if you have been staying in our guest house, you will be required to leave no later than 3 pm on the day following the conclusion of conference. We also require you to purchase medical insurance in case you need to see a doctor or require hospitalisation. We cannot pay for any medical expenses should you become ill while staying with us.
