Sermonettes 63
The Narrow Door
This is the door to the dining area of the Alcobaça Monastery in Portugal. It was made so narrow that that monks who got too fat were forced to go into fasting before they could enter and eat again.
Yah'shua the Messiah (Jesus Christ) used such a door as an illustration of His own:
"Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it" (Matthew 7:13-14, KJV).
It isn't, as one charismatic Prosperity pastor from Norway famously preached, a highway down which you can drive in your Mercedes Benz in style.
The door or gate to Yah'shua's (Jesus') Kingdom isn't to keep fat people out, however, but those who, claiming to be His talmidim (disciples), refuse to obey His mitzvot (commandments) in the Torah (Law). And that's why, He said, so few make it, because they are by nature and desire LAWLESS.
Have you recently measured your soul against the mitzvot (commandments)? If not, you'd better do so otherwise you might find it impossible to squeeze through.
