    MORMON TACTICS IN
    DEFENDING THEIR FAITH

    The following is a statement made on the Answering Mormonism Bulletin Board.

    There have been some very real heart-felt postings of late - quite a refreshing change and certainly a step in the right direction. But I think if we're not careful this is going to end up as another big smoke screen for Mormonism. Let me explain.

    Jesus explained, quite deliberately, that He was the Way, the Truth and the Life. The order in which He says things is no accident. The path of true discipleship (the Way), which begins accepting Jesus as one's one and only Savior - the only path to the Father - accompanied by a walk in the commandments, is obviously the starting place for all searching the Biblical God. That there are Mormons doing this, like some of those posting here, I have no doubt. Many years ago, when I was a fresh convert to Mormonism, the Lord gave me a vision (which I will happily post here if anyone is interested) in which He showed me that there were many in the LDS Church who were indeed walking along this Path or Way. In fact, I was shown the whole LDS Church and where it was. I didn't seek the vision for I was a new convert walking down a primrose path, and it got me in trouble with the LDS leaders.

    But please note the second stage: "I am the Truth", and how this preceeds "I am the Life". For one trusting in Christ to receive the fullness of the life which bubbles forth out of the belly like the river of living water, there MUST be Truth. That Biblical Truth Mormonism has severely distorted and has denied its adherants the choicest blessings, I maintain.

    There is a real danger here of appealing to love in such a way as to obscure the truth. As a Christian I cannot allow this to go by, not because I am "against" love or any other silly retort that someone might want to throw against me, but because the Bible always defines love in the context of truth. We may have wonderfully warm heart-feelings and still be led down to hell. Sincerity is not a ticket to salvation. That there are Mormons who truly trust in Christ is both warming and comforting (I was one such Mormon) but there are far more who are trusting in a prophet who has no prophecies, a church which has no authority, and a route to heaven that does not exist (I maintain) who are not. Sorry, I know this may not catch the current "mood" on this posting page, but we have got to keep our feet squarely on the ground.

    Truth defines love. God defines truth in the Bible. Without Truth our love will be nothing more than sentimentality without the power to save. God's love is not man's love for man has mutated it through the filter of his own fallen nature, and demons merely aid the process. Love, in the biblical sense, is not a feeling: love is consistently defined as obedience to the pattern of commandments revealed by Christ with the feelings coming as true fruits thereafter. Pagans may have strong and powerful feelings too. As a Mormon I loved, and was loved, but I was being taken on a false route to salvation. That is why I am no longer a Mormon. Yes, God winks in the days of our ignorance, and blesses us even if we find ourselves in a false system (be it LDS, protestant, or whatever), but that is merely His permissive will - He does not will us to be in a false system unconditionally or forever. His mercy supports, nourishes and caresses us while we are in those systems, but when He speaks the truth to our souls, we are under an obligation to respond. And if we do not respond, He will no longer continue justifying us. This is the biblical truth.

    However, I see very plainly a spirit at work in these postings (likely subsconscious) which is deliberately taking us away from Truth and towards feelings, which is what the whole Mormon edifice is built on, for if you ask your 'average' Mormon what his faith is built upon, it will usually be his TESTIMONY. That is not biblical Christianity. I know the Mormons stress experiential religion which, whilst it has its place, is not the foundation. When Jesus challenged the devil in the wilderness of Judea He did not appeal to His experience but to the WORD. Appeals to feelings and experience, valid though they are in cerctain circumstances, do not establish the Truth by which they can be adequately defined. It's the way of the New Age and of many counterfeit religions. I have a Muslim friend who was converted to Islam through a vision in which he saw a circle of white-clad men worshipping Allah in a mosque. The beauty of it moved him and he converted. What he failed to understand is that people have visions in ALL religions and that visions (and certainly NOT 'Urim & Thummim') are not the criteria for judging truth, for demons also inspire men with visions. I mention this because some of our LDS posters resort to visions as confirming signs of their 'true' faith. They aren't. Neither are feelings. We are judged ultimately by our faithfulness to the Word. Which is why Jesus always quoted it to the devil when the latter challenged his authority.

    I'm not saying that God does not (in some sense) add to the Word through visions and the like (since that is how the Word came into being in the first place) but that He is consistent in building upon that which has gone before. Therefore the early experiences and visions of the patriarchs, prophets and apostles become the Word up which we must built, AS CHRIST DID. I follow His example.

    We can discuss mutual feelings of respect and love on this posting page until the cows come home. I'm not knocking that - we need mutual affirmations of this kind from time to time. But we who are Bible-believing Christians must be careful that we do not fall into a false pattern here. We must confront falsewhood when it poses as the Truth. We must follow the pattern revealed by God in the Scriptures that we "reason" (Isaiah) and "prove all things" (Paul). This is the only way we will establish the truth and so be lead to ABUNDANT LIFE. Otherwise we will be led into the false Mormon New Age spirit which, I maintain, is nothing but a form of necromancy when it is divorced from the Bible.

    False religious spirits will always lead us away from the Truth, as is now happening. I have seen it with the many postings from our LDS friends here. Every time I have showed inconsistencies with the LDS paradigm, everytime I have shown that their revelations have been mutilated and are contradictory, I have had esoteric smokescreens thrown up. They have fallen back on the kabalah and theories of 'heavenly art' (you, the readers, haven't seen this one yet because they sent it in their emails as a last desperate attempt to prop their system up) when plain language has undermined their teachings. Instead of posting their replies on this site, I have had (sometimes) rude emails sent to me. I have asked them to post their objections for all to see but so far nothing. I have asked their permission to post them for all to see but I have been met by silence.

    Well, we have the opportunity now to get back to the real issues. Now that the mud-slinging has hopefully stopped and we are agreed that some/all of our LDS posters are trusting in Christ to some degree or another (which only God can judge), let us now get down to the FACTS. So I am going to set the ball rolling by saying saying these things:

      (1) Our LDS friends are trusting in Christ to the best of their ability and are in sincerely trying to walk in God's commandments - we agree not to resort to invective and mud-slinging. Let us respect that all of us - LDS and Bible-believing Christians are doing this and move on;

      (2) Having said that, I maintain that the LDS faith is not just a path for "some" (as one poster claimed) but is a false one which leads away from eternal life - the end of it is an eternity without God;

      (3) I maintain that LDS doctrine is unbiblical and teaches, in fact, a false god and was founded by fallen angels, the nephilim.

    In response, I suggest that we approach this subject from two angles:

      (1) First, and most importantly, from the P'SHAT or "Plain Truth" angle - in other words, we let the scriptures speak for themselves according to the rules of grammar and language generally;

      (2) We avoid any esoterica like kaballah UNLESS those who maintain such poisitions PRESENT THEIR EVIDENCE on this site for all to see and answer, as one did (Wayne) with his chisasmus on one posting (for which I thank him for his hard work).

    Christ tells us that we are to present the Truth (Light) for all to see, and not hide it under a table. I am therefore going to refuse all offers to have "private" discussions behind close doors where supposedly "deeper mysteries" can be revealed to me in secret. I am not going to any christs out in the desert. I am also going to insist that I have the right to publish on this site any emails sent me which address topics being discussed on this site.

    OK?

    May the Lord God of Israel, and His Son Jesus, be glorified in all that we say and do. Amen.

    The suggestions I made in the posting were (predictably) rejected.
