The Living Candlestick
NCW 31, March 1996
Q. I have heard a vision received recently in which a living Jewish candlestick made of olive branches is described. What does it mean?
This is the vision reported in the Special Edition No.II of the New Covenant Witness (No.29, p.29) and refers to the seven founding fathers and mothers of the New Covenant Church of God that is to be organised on 6 April 1996. Olive trees or branches always refer to people in prophetic revelation (see Zech.4). In this particular case there are 6 branches, or people, from a central branch, which is Christ.
Each branch has three buds (Ex.25:33), from which a new branch (or person) will grow. If each new branch has a further 3 buds, this will make a total of 10 buds per branch, or a total of 70 buds for the whole olive tree. This, you will remember, was the total number of elders who ascended Mt.Sinai together with Moses, Aaron, Nadab and Abihu to have the covenant confirmed (Ex.24:1-2). These four are three shadows or types, and one ante-type, of the Patriarch of the Covenant (Abraham) and the three Presiding Patriarchs of the first New Covenant (Peter, James and John), who are the fathers of this Church in Jesus Christ, who is the High Priest of all.
These are the six (three men and three women) who endured persecution and shame for the sake of the Gospel and did not run away. It is from these living branches, and those who will grow out from their witness of Christ, that this Church will grow into a mighty tree in whose branches the birds of the air will nest (as was seen in another vision last year).
