The 1995-6 Reorganisation
of the Church
NCW 27, January 1996
Q. In the Bergen Solemn Assembly on 15 October last year the Patriarchate announced that the whole Church was being reorganised "from top of bottom". What has happened? Is the draft Constitution that is circulating an accurate summary of this reorganisation?
Such an extensive reorganisation that is now taking place -- and has been taking place for at least 5 months -- cannot happen overnight. The draft Constitution (5th edition) is, moreover, only a transition constitution for the period 15 October 1995 - 1 April 1996.
It is impossible to summarise here what the final result of the reorganisation will be. We are receiving guidance and revelation on this daily and this has not stopped. It is for this reason that the Patriarchate has said so little these last three months as it does not wish to make premature announcements. The final reorganisation will be announced as a whole, and not piecemeal, though some topical questions of current importance have been answered in this publication.
The structures that have existed to date in the New Covenant Church of God were tailor-made to a specific period of growth in the Church and for a special group of people. Though containing pointers of what was to come, these structures were undeveloped. 1995 was a year of tremendous upheaval for the Church, not unlike the vigorous transformation required of a caterpillar as it changes into a chrysalis and finally into a butterfly. The Patriarchate wishes to repeat, again, that the Church which emerges in the next Holy Week will be as different as a caterpillar is from a butterfly. In the meantime, we ask the Church to be patient while the transformation occurs invisibly in the collective soul of the members in the metaphorical darkness of the chrysalis.
These changes, though hinted at from the very beginning of the New Covenant, have not begun to be fully understood until now. We are a Church in vigorous transformation, at times painfully; not until the butterfly has broken out of the chrysalis, will everyone understand.
