XXIV. BIBLE VERSIONS
No one English Bible version is used on this website though the most commonly used are the King James Version (1611), the New King James Version (1982), the New International Version (1978) and some others. Where a Bible version is not indicated, the text has been translated directly from Hebrew, Aramaic or Greek, or from another language like Latin or German.
Numerous Polish and German versions of the Bible are in use today. The Danzig Bible (1632) was the first translation made for Polish Evangelicals and is rather like the English King James Version (1611). The three most popular Catholic versions are the Biblia Tysiąclecia or Millennium Bible (1965), the Biblia Poznańska or Posen Bible (1975) and the Biblia Warszawsko-Praska (1997). Protestants use the Biblia Warszawska or Warsaw Bible (1975).
German translations in use are too numerous to list here. Our favourites are Luther's Bible (1534), the Elberfelder (1855) - which inspired Darby's English translation (1867), Schlachter (2000) and the Bibel.Heute or simply NeÜ (2010).
