Pesach 2006
Passover, Cain and Abel, and the Ruach haRishon
Main Themes:
Minor Themes:
Brethren and sisters, I welcome you in the Name of Yah'shua our Messiah as we gather this Sabbath to prepare for Pesach which begins next Tuesday evening. And although we have been celebrating Pesach now for the last six years, this year we enter into it - and a whole new cycle of annual moedim - with a completely different perspective. Therefore we come preparing for Pesach this year with a whole new revelation from Yahweh on the spiritual life and it's about that I principally want to talk about this year.
It is not generally know that Pesach or Passover is the oldest, continuously observed religious holy day on this planet apart from the Sabbath day. Most people assume that it was first instituted in Egypt at the time of Moses. But what we in fact find is a much earlier observance of this festival, back in the first days of humankind, in the first generation when Adam and his family began the first tentative steps to colonise the planet. We can read about this in the fourth chapter of Genesis:
"In the course of time Cain (Qayin) brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to Yahweh. But Abel (Havel) brought fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. Yahweh looked with favour on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favour. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast. Then Yahweh said to Cain, 'Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it'" (Gen.4:3-7, NIV).
Of course, this offering by Abel was not called 'Passover' though it would have been most appropriate to have been so because when Abel made his offering of the firstborn of his flock, something did indeed 'pass over' him. It did not, however, 'pass over' his brother Cain but entered into his heart and made him "very angry". Yes, what actually entered Cain on that terrible day of offering was a demon and those of you involved in the deliverance ministry will recognise that it is so at once. And arguably, this is the first recorded scripture of a man getting demonised, which makes it all the more important for us to study. Indeed, as one man, Cain, is being demonised, so another, Abel, is being filled with the Ruach haRishon. And if the term Ruach haRishon is unfamiliar to you then I will begin by informing you that this is the first of the Seven Ruachs or Heavenly Mothers, the Ruach which was present on the first day of creation when She moved upon the face of the waters of the primeval earth which was void and without form, when darkness was upon the face of the deep (Gen.1:2).
During the month of March we had many face-to-face meetings with the Ruach haRishon in the Garden. Earlier Yahweh had promised us that He would reveal each of the seven Ruachs to us as we spiritually prepared ourselves. The rôle of the Ruach haRishon is revealed in this second verse of the Bible to be the power from Yahweh who starts the creation process in motion, and specifically, the first injection of life. In the first verse Yahweh created the physical universe but it was lifeless - void and dark. Imagine in your mind's eye, if you will, this dark sphere called planet earth suspended in space covered in a mantle of water. There is no light or life in it whatsoever - a ball of rock with an envelope of water, cold and dark. About two months ago Yahweh showed me a vision of this creation event - I saw the earth just as I have described it to you. And then suddenly the Ruach haRishon descended and touched the waters and all at once light began to spread rapidly from this point of contact, as though the water had been lit up by a huge light under the surface. Within a couple of seconds the entire globe was alive and glowing with light and the waters, for the first time, took on a pale bluish-white colour.
Now none of us knows why Yahweh created the world, and us, and all that is in it, the way He did, but faith and common sense leads us to believe that He had a reason. In fact, as we look around this vast cosmos we are immediately struck by the realisation of just how little we actually do know. Yet the moment we start to trust, and believe, in what He says, then we start understanding. And so long as we keep trusting, so our knowledge of Him, and of the cosmos, and of life itself begins to grow. And as it grows, the more we are filled with wonderment and praise, because everything unfolds in a natural harmony. And so long as we keep on trusting - so long as we choose to see and understand the truth as He reveals it, and not as man tries to interpret it in his own finite mind, then our knowledge and joy just keep on expanding exponentially. We enter, as it were, the light-stream of Yahweh and are catapulted into the very bosom of eternity. And such, brethren and sisters, is the way our spiritual and earthly journey is supposed to be. It is the way of this Mishpachah. And if it is, then it is because we started right - it is because we were first touched by the Ruach haRishon, doing things in the right order and at the right season.
The moedim of Yahweh are all about doing the right things in the right sequence. Pesach or Passover is the first of His moedim, the first sacrifice by Abel, not Easter or other pagan celebrations, which are after the false order of Cain. And how do we know which is true? Because the one leads to an in-filling by the Ruach haRishon and the other to an in-filling by a demon. How do we know it is a demon? Because as we look at the history of the Easter celebrators we discover a spirit that has lead to the persecution and death of millions of souls - a spirit that hides under the name of 'Christ' but which in truth is the spirit of murder. And I don't need to recount the history of Christendom to you here with its crusades, bloody inquisitions, and burnings because it is well known to you. Christendom is its own witness.
As we go to the original sacrifices of Cain and Abel we see laid before us two mutually opposite and antagonistic paths of salvation. Both sons of Adam made sacrifices to Yahweh but each made his sacrifice with a different spirit. Yes, they both made sacrifices to the true Elohim only one made it to Yahweh in Name only, for his heart was all wrong:
"Now Cain said to his brother Abel, 'Let's go out to the field.' And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him. Then Yahweh said to Cain, 'Where is your brother Abel?' 'I don't know,' he replied. 'Am I my brother's keeper?' Yahweh said, 'What have you done? Listen! Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground. Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand. When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth.' Cain said to Yahweh, 'My punishment is more than I can bear. Today you are driving me from the land, and I will be hidden from your presence; I will be a restless wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me.' But Yahweh said to him, 'Not so; if anyone kills Cain, he will suffer vengeance seven times over.' Then Yahweh put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him. So Cain went out from Yahweh's presence and lived in the land of Nod, east of Eden" (Gen.4:8-16, NIV).
Now in this passage of Scripture we learn all the hallmarks of the carnal, unsaved man, even if he professes to follow the true Elohim of Heaven, Yahweh. The first thing we learn is that Cain made the wrong sacrifice. He did not follow the correct order. He was rebellious and self-willed. And when his out-of-order offering was rejected, he grew indignant and angry. Seeing his brother who made an offering in the right order and Yahweh accepting it, filled him with rage and the spirit of murder. Now he could have repented, but instead he chose to be jealous! And that, brethren and sisters, is how jealousy starts in every human being. It starts when we refuse to do things Yahweh's way and start instituting our own order or way of doing things. And then we come up with all sorts of unbelievable excuses like: "Yahweh knows my heart. Yahweh is love. He accepts me as I am" when the truth is we have rebelled by declaring that we know better than He does. Whether it is the celebration of Easter instead of Passover or rejecting the clearly laid out plan of salvation in the Bible, it is still rebellion, which is as the sin of witchcraft (1 Sam.15:23, NKJV)). And it doesn't matter what your heart feels about a matter - if it is contrary to the commandments, it is still rebellion, and the spirit of rebellion is the spirit of witchcraft, and the spirit of witchcraft is the spirit of murder, and the spirit of murder is the spirit of the father of lies which is Satan (John 8:44). And that spirit leads to inquisitions and burnings at the stake, whether by Catholics or Protestants, it doesn't matter, because it's all devilish.
Now in case you think I am going to make a blanket exoneration of Messianics who observe the moedim, you are mistaken, because it is still possible to follow the right outer formula and still have a wrong heart - even a murderous one like Cain's. Which is why we have to start with the heart - which is why we have to start with the Ruach haRishon and build our spiritual life upon the correct foundation. Moreover, don't be deceived into believing you can follow the wrong outer formula so long as you have the right heart, because this is a total contradiction. A right heart does not follow a wrong formula but the true one unless it is genuinely uneducated and ignorant.
The moment Cain has killed, he is in hell, and he brings forth the fruits of hell. Disobedience, jealousy and anger lead him to plot murder. To do that he had to deceive - he lured his brother Abel into an open field under some false pretence, appealing no doubt to Abel's trusting and loving nature, and promptly killed him. How many times have we seen Satanists do this to their victims - appealing to their compassion and luring them into a trap? We have seen it far too many times! Having killed, Cain lies. Yahweh asks where Cain is and he replies, "I don't know." It's amazing how, when a soul gets demonised, he will believe the most preposterous lies. Did he really believe Yahweh would believe him when he denied knowledge of his brother's whereabouts? The real Cain would have known but by this time the demonic was so firmly integrated into his self - into his thinking and feeling life - that he would probably have believed what they told him. Demonised people do believe the most incredible things which those who are not demonised know is preposterous. Indeed a few weeks ago I was speaking with a very demonised lady who, after we had talked, read over the log of our conversation and couldn't believe she had said what she had. Yet it was not her - it was her demons who had spoken. Yet she still believed it was her and was confused.
Cain fell into self-delusion. Moreover, we know from later scripture that when we consciously deny the truth, it is Yahweh who sends or permits that self-delusion because that is what we have chosen. Paul said:
"The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason Yahweh sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness" (2 Thess.2:9-12, NIV).
Cain was at this point under a powerful demonic illusion sent or permitted by Yahweh so that he would be condemned for his evil choice. That is how the evil are condemned. If we choose to disobey then we choose the condemnation of Yahweh as well. It's our free choice and we are responsible for it. Now not only does Cain deny knowledge of his brother's whereabouts but he also denies responsibility: "Am I my brother's keeper?" Yes, we all know that saying, which is another way of saying: "I don't care. What's that got to do with me?" And we only say such a thing when we no longer have a conscience. And we no longer have a conscience when we hand over its maintenance to Satan. Does Satan want you to have a bad conscience about sin? Of course not. He wants you to either be indifferent to it or militant against those who expose it. That's the way Satan and his demons are indifferent or militantly rebellious. Thus we can either become numb or hostile to the truth and the servants of truth to the point where we may even want to kill them, so great is the demonic anger in us.
Yahweh told Cain that he was under a curse. And the curse was that he would no longer be fruitful. He would toil and labour but get no increase. Not only that but he would become restless and a wanderer, constantly seeking peace but never finding it. Brethren and sisters, if these are symptoms of your spiritual life then I have to tell you in all candour that you have a demon problem. The Apostle James says: "All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison" (James 3:7-8, NIV). Yes, one of the first symptoms of a restless soul is a deadly tongue that accuses and condemns, and that restless soul is as it is because of a sequence of prior events like the ones that led Cain into his restlessness. Now you may not have physically murdered someone but you may have murdered them in your heart. Thus the Apostle John would write: "Whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness; he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded him" (1 John 2:11, NIV).
The story of Cain is the story of demonisation and it is a story that has been repeated trillions of times in earth's history. It's happening all around you today. And it starts when we make a conscious decision to know better than Yahweh does - when we decide to do things our way and not His. It starts when we try to improve on what He has ordained for our lives. Then things go wrong and people wonder why. But instead of repenting they make excuses, accuse, grow angry and bitter, and end up with the spirit or murder which, if they are not very careful, leads to the ultimate act of darkness which is physical murder.
Now why did Abel suddenly hate Cain so intensely? I can't believe that the brothers didn't have a happy relationship at some earlier time. When Yah'shua said that His enemies hated Him without a cause (John 15:25) it wasn't just that He was innocent of any wrong but it was also pointing back to Cain who likewise hated Abel without a cause. Why did he hate his brother? Why on earth should we hate someone for doing what is right? And the answer is that the moment you stop trusting Yahweh you start trusting Satan, and the moment you start trusting Satan, you become irrational, for even though you have no justifiable grounds to hate, the demons do. They are consumed by hatred because they, like Cain, also rebelled, and led Cain to do what they did. And yet were they justified? No, actually not. Those fallen angels were not justified. Neither was Lucifer who never had a just cause to hate Yahweh - Yahweh had created him and make him the most glorious creation outside the Godhead. Lucifer had everything. But he wasn't satisfied. He chose to believe the lie that he deserved more - he didn't see why he couldn't have all that Yahweh had and take it for himself. In short, he didn't want to be in female, receiving position. He wanted to be the boss - to be in control. And that, brethren and sisters, is the root of all our ills. We want something that isn't ours, believing as the demons do, and are willing to be led around by the nose by them in a futile quest for the impossible.
Now the Pesach that we celebrate each year is about bondage in Egypt and liberation from that bondage. It is, as you know, a picture of deliverance for every man and woman and we've been celebrating this as a human race for 3,500 years now, since the time of Moses (Ex.12-13). The central message of this deliverance is that we can't do it ourselves - only the atoning blood of the Lamb can. And yes, anciently we enacted the grizzly sacrifice of innocent lambs and marked the door posts of our homes with their innocent blood. Our hearts rightly recoil at the thought of an innocent animal having to pay for our transgressions and we are supposed to realise from that that an innocent man died to secure the same for us eternally. And how much greater is a man than a lamb! And not just a man, but the very Son of Elohim. Someone great and wonderful was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice so that we today can flee the demonic darkness of spiritual Egypt.
Yes, those who are without Yah'shua are like Cain - lost, lonely, wandering, despised, rejected, fruitless and despairing. At Pesach we remember how Yahweh took on flesh and offered us a way out. It requires only one sacrifice - the sacrifice of Abel, in fact, and that sacrifice is self-will. We must prostrate ourselves, like the primitive earth - void, dark, cold and purposeless - in female position, fully submitted - so that the Ruach haRishon can touch us and bring us to new life in Messiah. It is the first of seven acts of salvation depicted by the Seven Festivasl of the Messiah of which Pesach is the first. Each festival is presided over by one of the Seven Ruachs and if we carefully follow Yahweh's instructions in each of them, doing as He says with a broken heart and a contrite spirit (Ps.51:17), then He will send each Ruach in Her turn and anoint us, cleansing us from sin as we adhere to and trust Yah'shua, until we come to the last of the festivals - Sukkot - and can celebrate in the joy and spiritual rest of a full redemption brought by the Ruach haShabbat, the Sabbath Spirit or Sabbath Queen.
Once again, then, as I do each year, I invite you to submit to the ordinances of Yahweh not simply for the sake of being obedient but because of the spiritual heart that He wishes to give to you. For in each moed is a spiritual gift mediated by one of Seven Heavenly Mothers. Whether you receive them or not is up to you, but if you choose to, then be sure to submit fully to the ways He has ordained, nothing doubting, without fear or resentment. For if you don't, you will not be able to receive them. "If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it". Until, then, we meet on Friday evening for the Passover Seder, may the the Most High bless and sanctify you and bring you peace. Amen.
