The Second Book of Abraham is not a product of this (HEM) ministry nor its parent organisation, the Chavurat Bekorot. Claiming by its author (JB) to be have been received by direct revelation, it is more likely a reworking of Genesis 5-25 (known by members of the Holy Order as The First Book of Abraham) and the pseudepigraphical Book of Jasher, which it closely resembles, with a heavy dose of late 19th century Restoration Theology.
In spite of its obvious corruption, the Chavurat Bekorot made the decision in 1989-90 to attempt a reworking of the text to make it available to its members for spiritual purposes. What you see presented here is not, therefore, the primary text but a highly revised one. It has gone through five different revisions, the latest being in 2016, in a bid to remove the author's tainted beliefs and make it more properly conform it to biblical truth and true spiritual tavnith or pattern. The extra historical material, though having much in common with Pharisaic writings of the second and first centuries BC, draws upon various oral traditions which may or may not have any basis in reality. The reader should therefore tread carefully with this material. The text has also been subjected to extensive cosmetic modification to improve grammar and style, make it resemble King James English, and to include the correct Sacred Names of Deity.
Unlike the remainder of the Books of Abraham (3-12 Abraham), which are at least doctrinally and spiritually pure, no such claim can be made for this work, which may possibly be revised again at a future date, or even discarded. The fifth revised version, which is presented here, does, we believe, possess sufficient merit to continue to be published as a pseudepigraphic parable expressing true principles. Though some of the material is clearly historical and derived from Genesis, much of it probably isn't. We do not therefore regarded this work as 'inspired' in the way we regard the remaining Books of Abraham to be.
The Third Book of Abraham (a title used to represent 3-12 Abraham collectively), which follows on from this work, takes up the story line found in 2 Abraham and continues in its own parabolic fashion to reveal deep truths about the mystery of Holy Echad Marriage (HEM) which 2 Abraham knows nothing about. 2 Abraham has mostly been retained because of the story line that is taken up in 3 Abraham to give a narrative framework in which to express the deep revelations of Holy Echad Marriage. If you wish to skip 2 Abraham and go straight to 3 Abraham, you will not miss out on anything of substantial importance.
