14. Prosperity and Giving

1. There are two basic principles for prosperity recorded in the Bible. One principle is found written in the book of Malachi the prophet, and the second written in the Gospel of Matthew. What are these two principles?

a. Malachi 3:8-12 _________________________________________________________________________________________________________

b. Matthew 6:25-33 _________________________________________________________________________________________________________

2. How does a man rob God? (Malachi 3:8) _________________________________________________________________________________________________________

3. What is the tithe? (Nehemiah 10:38) _________________________________________________________________________________________________________

4. Besides one-tenth of our wages, what else do we owe tithes on? (Leviticus 27:30,32)

a. _____________________________________________________________________________________________
b. _____________________________________________________________________________________________
c. _____________________________________________________________________________________________
d. ______________________________________________ _______________________________________________

This is what we owe God. It is not a gift. The tenth part belongs to Him. In addition to the tithe we are also commanded to give contributions.

5. How is a contribution determined? (Exodus 25:2; 35:5) _________________________________________________________________________________________________________

6. What happens if we fail to pay the tithe and give contributions? (Malachi 3:9) _________________________________________________________________________________________________________

7. Where do we put our tithe and to whom is it given? (Malachi 3:10; Nehemiah 10:38) _________________________________________________________________________________________________________

8. For what is the tithe used? (Malachi 3:10; Numbers 18:21,24) _________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Therefore we see that the tithe is used to supply the need of the ministry.

9. Do the ministers pay tithes? (Numbers 18:26) _________________________________________________________________________________________________________

10. As we give God the part of our income that belongs to Him, what will He do for us? (Malachi 3:10) _________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Therefore, as we give bountifully, the Lord will supply us with an extra amount -- not to store away and hoard -- but to use and give out to meet the needs of others.

39. What is giving in this way proof of? (2 Corinthians 9:13) _________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The Law of Tithing was instituted by God amongst the Patriarchs and was continued in the Law of Moses. After the Day of Pentecost a new system of financial stewardship was instituted amongst the believers.

40. What was the system that replaced the Law of Tithing? (Acts 2:44; 4:32) _________________________________________________________________________________________________________

This is sometimes called the Law of Equality or the United Order.

41. How did this system of "all things in common" work in practice? (Acts 4:34-35; 2:45) _________________________________________________________________________________________________________

42. Who in the ministry was authorised to administer these funds? (Acts 4:35a) _________________________________________________________________________________________________________

43. What did the Lord do when Ananias and Sapphira attempted to cheat the saints and God with regard to this law? (Acts 5:1-11) _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

44. What was the essential prerequisite of believers living the United Order? (Acts 4:32a) _________________________________________________________________________________________________________

45. What else did these believers do? (Acts 2:46-47)

a. _____________________________________________________________________________________________
b. _____________________________________________________________________________________________
c. _____________________________________________________________________________________________

The United Order was not lived by all Christians but only by those living by the temple in Jerusalem, which was, until their scattering, the central ekklęsia or fellowship. There is no mention of this Order being lived by the gentiles or by Jews in other congregations. The New Covenant Church of God, which is a restoration of the New Testament Church, is divided into 12 Firstborn Colonies where the saints live together and live the United Order, Law of Equality, or Law of All Things in Common. One apostle is assigned to each colony to administer this Order. These colonies are centred around a temple where daily worship is held. The members partake of communal meals. These colonies are administered by the Holy Order, also called the Order of the Sons of the Prophets (1 Ki.20:35; 2 Ki.2:7; 4:1), known also as the Church of the Firstborn or Church of the Father or Patriarchal Church (having been known by different names in different dispensations), which is non-public.

The Priesthood officers (Elders and Deacons) of the local colonies of the New Covenant Church of God who administer the Lord's Supper, are required to live the preparatory Law of Tithing and Freewill Offerings, such as was practiced by Jewish Christians who were not members of the central ekklęsia in Jerusalem.

The ordinary (non-Priesthood) members of the local colonies are taught and encouraged to obey the Law of Tithing and the Law of Freewill Offerings. Those not faithful to this Law are not admitted to Priesthood callings. The New Covenant therefore practices two different levels of financial stewardship according to the level of a member's spiritual growth in the Covenant. Those who have met the requirements described in Acts 2 and 4 eventually gather together into colonies where the fullness of the Gospel of lived, one of the most important of which is the United Order, if this is their desire.
